What is the best free VPN, and do I need one?

Proton VPN is the best free VPN. Its free plan has no data cap, no ads and a strict no-logs policy, from the Swiss company behind Proton Mail. You need a VPN on public Wi-Fi or to hide your location, not for everyday home browsing. Most other free VPNs make money from your data.
